(AUG. 2011) BERENDSEN TEXTILE SERVICE DENMARK has decided to implement Transvision Route Planner in conjunction with TomTom Work for the optimisation of the company’s master routes.
Berendsen Textile Service A/S is a well-established Danish textile maintenance company which provides textile rental and cleaning services as well as hygiene products for a large number of organisations across Europe. The company is market-leading in Scandinavia and enjoys a strong presence in six other European countries. It is owned by London-based Berendsen Plc, which employs more than 16,000 people and occupies a leading position in most of the 15 countries in which it operates.
The decision to invest in Transvision Route Planner came after a very successful test simulation which proved that there were substantial savings to be made by implementing the system. This was the main reason for choosing Transvision Route Planner, but the system’s outstanding ability to make realistic, drivable routes also played an important part.
The system is used for cyclical master route planning and for making adjustments to the routes, which are sent to TomTom Work for the drivers to execute. Transvision has designed a data bridge module which ensures that route data from Transvision Route Planner is converted into the right format and exported efficiently to TomTom Work. This results in seamless integration between the two systems, thereby allowing the drivers to access all relevant data on their onboard computers.
When creating the routes, Transvision Route Planner plans according to visit patterns, capacity constraints, time windows and various other parameters in order to help Berendsen find the optimal service days while respecting necessary restrictions. The final route plans are normally sent to the drivers on the day before execution, but it is also possible to send them several days in advance or to make changes to the routes on the actual day of execution. In this way, the system allows for great flexibility.
Transvision Route Planner has currently been implemented in part of Berendsen’s organisation and will gradually be rolled out to all of the company’s divisions and vehicles.
