(AUG. 2011) NORWEGIAN AGRICULTURAL COOPERATIVE NORTURA recently decided to extend the implementation of Transvision Livestock Planner to cover two new areas, involving approx. 150 additional vehicles and several new slaughterhouses.

Nortura is Norway’s leading supplier of meat and eggs, with an annual turnover of approximately NOK 17 billion and almost 6,000 employees spread across 34 production facilities all over Norway. The company is owned by 17,800 Norwegian farmers and headquartered in Oslo.

After having deployed Tranvision Livestock Planner with positive results in central Norway over a period of time, Nortura concluded that it would be lucrative to roll out the system to a number of new slaughterhouses in southern and central Norway respectively. Here, the system will be used for the planning of routes for inbound livestock transport.

One of the main new features which have been introduced in connection with the further roll-out is a built-in dialogue module in Transvision Livestock Planner. Before, the planners at Nortura simply used an Excel sheet to keep track of the slaughter schedule and the number of transported and stalled animals, but this has now been replaced by a real-time report that draws data directly from the planning component. Consequently, the planners no longer need to spend time entering figures on a spreadsheet manually.

The roll-out should be complete by the middle of 2012.
